Lock & Load’s Battle of the Bands
The 50/50 Rule.
The 50/50 rule works in conjunction with the panel judging system to award additional points to bands that actively perform more original material over covers. 50/50 refers to the ratio of originals to covers within a set-list performed inside the allocated time. The rule is applied irrespective of song order
Bands must now therefore supply a set-list and indicate which songs are covers and which songs are their own.
How the rule works
For every whole ORIGINAL song performed after the 50/50 set-list ratio has been attained, a bonus of three points will be allocated per additional original song, up to a maximum of fifteen points. See example 1.
For every whole COVER song performed after the 50/50 set-list ratio has been attained, a penalty of three points will be allocated per cover to a minimum of minus fifteen points. See example 2.
Example 1 : Band X performs 11 songs of which 8 are originals. Band X are awarded 6 extra points for the two wholesongs they have performed over the 50/50 set-list point.
Example 2 : Band Y performs 12 songs of which 8 are covers. Band Y are penalised -6 points for the two whole cover songs they have performed over the 50/50 set-list point.
Example 3 : Band Z performs 9 songs of which 5 are covers. NO 50/50 Rule modifier point s are allocated.
As can be seen, there is now more of an incentive to put together a set-list comprising of as many originals as possible. The rule does not force covers to be excluded entirely, but does discourage over use of by penalising a performance that has more than 50% covers in any one set-list.
