Turnstone were formed in October 2002, when Rafe Garforth, Nick Garforth, Lewis Hickin, Guy Nottage and debutant drummer Tim Eves teamed up in Hopton-on-sea, Great Yarmouth. Immediately building a set based on classic covers by bands such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Crowded House. The band were given their first gig as the support act for Half Cream at The Brickmakers, Norwich on 22nd November 2002 – a mere month after their formation. The band spent the next few months building up a vast set of covers and self penned numbers, before their assault on the Norfolk music circuit in the spring of 2003.
In June 2003 the band recorded their debut CD, consisting of three original songs – the rocking “Don't Be Denied”, the west coast tinted “Don't Leave Too Soon” and the epic “Something's Going Down”. The CD was rated 4/5 in a review by the Eastern Daily Press, and gained the band numerous gigs around Norfolk , as well as a brief stint in London . The band are often described as sounding like “The Rolling Stones singing The Beatles”.
In December 2003, the band recorded their second CD, consisting of the funky “Scorpion”, early Beatles-esque “I'll Make You Mine”, the obligatory rocker “Feena Roulette” and the Van Morrison inspired “I Will Take You Home Tonight”.
